Curious to see what people think of this. I for one am glad to see a fresh face as champion. I think he's great on the mic an adequate in the ring. Though I do think he makes a good champ, my problem is that I don't think he's the most deserving out there. I think it's a shame that he gets a shot at the top while guys like Christian fill out the mid card, and guys like Matt Hardy and MVP have to ask for their own release because of being misused. At the end of the day though, I am much happier with them elevating The Miz, than them continuing to shove Sheamus down our throats.
WWE really dropped the ball with Jack Swagger's title reign earlier this year by using bogus finishes, and making him look weak. I hope they don't do the same with The Miz.

He mic skills are pretty decent and he's a pretty solid performer. Hopefully if they book him right.

They've already booked him wrong with the way he won the title and the way he had to beat a 61 year old man. He's good. Good enough to be Champion. But they're booking him to be a weak Champion.

I agree he looks weak so far, but having a heel be weak isn't necessarily a bad thing. The more weak and cowardly he appears the more entertaining it can be. I love watching a champion who doges challenges and never wins clean. I think Miz will pull this off great. From a business standpoint it's great to have a coward heel as champ, because every PPV that passes the fans will really believe the title will change and they'll order the PPV. In actuality, The Miz will probably hold the title until Elimination Chamber in February, but people who don't actually know anything about wrestling will order every PPV in anticipation of the coward losing. Maybe it's just because my efed character is a coward, and was a undeserving champion who ducked all challenges, but I would love to see this play out with a cowardly Miz.
On the other hand, Swagger was played as a sap. It didn't help that they started off his reign by booking him against The Big Show. The Big Show rivals Sid Vicious and as the worst in ring performer ever. They dropped the ball with Swagger big time. The finish to the money in the bank match where Swagger struggled for 60 seconds to unhook the briefcase was been a foreshadowing of his title reign. It was a complete joke.
Of the current performers getting close to main event status, they could have picked people alot worse than him to elevate. He is pretty good in the ring, and he's actually quite good on the mic. I would rather see John Morrison as the champ, but let's face it he sucks as a face on the mic. He needs to be a heel. I also would rather see Wade Barrett at the top. I am probably in the minority here, but he is great on the mic, he has a commanding presence, and he is pretty good in the ring for a bigger guy. Other than them I would say The Miz is an acceptable choice.

Indeed.
Because miz is a heel he doesn't really need cred as a champion(he needs it to win it but not to keep it).
That's my feeling on it. You look at sheamus who won it way too early in his career. He needed cred.
Miz has actually not been booked to look weak, at all. Between alex on the outside and the "voice of of the wwe" willing to put himself on the line, Miz can come off like a credible threat.
It's a milder version of CM Punk essentially leading a cult.
To me Miz is the type of villian that makes up for a lack of brawn with brain power and having the positive attribute of never giving up. And that to me also makes him a good villian cause he takes something positive and twists it in a way to make you hate him.
WWE is readjusting their storylines and the placement of people on the success ladder. Also right now I think Miz as a new champion and the mixed reaction he's getting, Orton's mere presence at that point would've overwhelmed Miz and ruined any credibility.
King was the safe choice.
And you tie it into mizes speeches, it continues off of the nostalgia and the old school Raw of the week before, and it fits very well.
It wasn't the greatest begining to Miz's reign, but it worked in all the right places.
I might even say I liked what WWE did there just because I like things that work on multiple levels and it feels like they put thought into it and it usually feels like they don't put much thought into anything.
PS. Did anyone else think that Piper's speech was bullshit? And that any of the legends would've taken the shortcut (Piper ESPECIALLY) that he was demanding Cena not take? And that the legends were far more cheating, underhanded, shortcut taking pricks than any of the modern guys? Piper ESPECIALLY?

Yeah, Piper hasn't made sense since the early 90's.
