Larsen Van Der Kamp is in a car. Sitting next to him is Nassor, second in command in the Johannesburg mob. The car stops, and Larsen and Nassor step out. Larsen looks around at the houses and begins to recognize where he is. He looks over at Nassor who points a gun at his head.
NASSOR:
"What's wrong? Conscience getting in the way."
A loud knock is heard at a door and Larsen jars awake.
What was that? Could it be? Finally a real memory. Not just a fragment, or a quick image, but a real memory. What was happening? Where was I? What was I doing, and why was Nassor holding a gun to my head?
Again a loud knock is heard at the door. Larsen gets up and looks through the peep hole. He sees his landlady standing outside the door. Larsen opens the door and she steps aside. Officer Ule Patel forces his way through the door.
PATEL:
"Sorry for the deception, but I figured you wouldn't open the door for me, since you haven't returned my calls the past few weeks."
LARSEN:
"The last time we met you basically accused me of murder. That kind of eliminated any possibility of goodwill between us."
PATEL:
"Perhaps I was a little over aggressive last time we met."
LARSEN:
"Perhaps you were."
PATEL:
"Then again, maybe not."
Larsen begins to look angry. He glares at Patel.
PATEL:
"I have to admit, there's some things that are puzzling me."
LARSEN:
"Such as?"
PATEL:
"Well, of course there was my initial concerns about your past connection to Lesedi that worried me at first. Now I have been receiving reports of you spending a lot of time with a known operative in the mob."
LARSEN:
"If you're talking about Tau, I am using him to follow up on a lead about my past."
PATEL:
"See, that's what I thought too. I've read Streppner's file on you. It talked about some sort of past connection with Tau that you were exploring. Strange thing is though, one of my informants, my best informant, spotted a white male in his 30's entering the safe house of the #2 man in the organization. A man named Nassor. This white man fit your description to a tee. Funny thing about that is, no outsider meets with Nassor, and very few insiders have the... fortune of meeting with him. Even our highest up informants have never gotten near him. Does any of this sound familiar to you?"
LARSEN:
"Officer Patel, if I met with the #2 man in the Johannesburg mob I would have reported it to you."
PATEL:
"Would you have?"
LARSEN:
"Of course."
PATEL:
"Well then, it appears that we have nothing further to discuss then. You'll keep me informed of course of any future dealings with Tau."
LARSEN:
"I will."
Patel walks out the door. Before Larsen can close the door Patel places his hand on the door and pushes it open once again.
PATEL:
"Let me just make one thing clear. Officer Streppner trusted you, he had a soft spot for you. He was always the type to try and help out the little lost puppies. He believed you were an honest man. I haven't yet decided what I think of you, and so far you haven't exactly shown yourself to be a trustworthy man. I believe you are hiding something, and I will find out what it is. Just thought you should know."
Patel walks away with a smile on his face. Larsen slams the door shut.
Unbelievable! They said they would take care of him. How am I supposed to get anywhere in my own investigation if I have him breathing down my neck.
Larsen sits down for a moment, then remembers the dream. He goes to his desk and pulls out his journal.
Forget about Patel. Remember the memory. Every sound, every image, every feeling. Where was I? Why did it seem so familiar?
Larsen begins to write in his journal. As he writes, his phone rings. He ignores it and the ringing stops. He continues writing. The phone rings again. Larsen gets angry and throws the journal across the room. He answers the phone.
LARSEN:
"WHAT?"
TAU:
"Is that anyway to greet an old friend?"[/i]
LARSEN:
"It's how I greet an old friend who doesn't come through on his promise to keep Patel off my back."
TAU:
"I was afraid of that. He has proven to be much more relentless than we had ever suspected. He just doesn't quit. We will deal with him, but that will have to wait for another time. Right now, we have to celebrate."[/i]
LARSEN:
"Celebrate what?"
TAU:
"I just got the call from Nassor. The boss says you're in. So get yourself over to the warehouse, and let's celebrate our new partnership, just like old times."[/i]
LARSEN:
"Only problem with that is, I don't remember the old times."
TAU:
"Just get over here my friend."
LARSEN:
"Alright, I'm on my way."
Larsen hangs up the phone. He looks down at his journal and thinks for a moment.
Forget it. I'll write it down later.

"Apocalypse Now is just around the corner. The Sedition seems to have finally realized that Ian DeTornado and I will be competing for the SWA title. Their pathetic attempts at tearing us down with farcical matches and sneak attacks have failed. Now the only thing left to do is to go out there and put on the match of the century like I know we can. The Sedition has failed to keep us down. Unfortunately, 2 weeks ago, I let myself down. I was beaten by Captain Insanity in an Extreme Combat Rules match. I could complain that the match took me out of my element and into his, but the fact is I was beaten by the better man, the better man on that night. My only comfort comes from the fact that Ian DeTornado also lost in his match against Teen Throb. The truth is, the Extreme Combat competitors were simply hungrier than we were. I will not make the same mistake again. This week I have a Blindfold Match with the man they call Fighting Irish, Danny O'Callahan. I will not make the mistake of going into this match and treating like one I can afford to lose. I promise that you will see the real Larsen Van Der Kamp, hungry and ready for a fight.
It would be a huge mistake for me to take this match lightly. You, like me seem to be a very street smart competitor. You've grown up on the wrong side of the tracks, and even embraced the culture of that life. You've had your run ins with the law, but let's be honest, who am I to judge you? The last couple of months I have done things that I never would have expected myself to do. I have allowed a very dark side of my personality to come through. This does not make me happy, on the contrary I rather despise what I have become. On the other hand it has shown me how far I am willing to go to accomplish my task. This is why you should be fearful of me Danny. Whereas you are fighting to avoid your dark side, I am unleashing it as a means to an end. I don't know if you are willing to go as far as I will to accomplish your task. I suppose time will tell. We have never faced off before, so I don't really know what you bring to the table. I won't judge you based on your record, because as I have discovered since last Fever, a loss serves only to make you more determined. All I know is that I will stop at nothing to win, and that ought to frighten you some, I know it frightens me.
A man's character is not based on memory, it is what it is, and that will not change. I always believed that I would always choose the right path, the road less traveled. I don't know if the choices I am making today are right or wrong. What I do know is that it has revealed part of my character which was previously unknown to me. It has shown me that ambition knows no boundaries for me. I killed a man in order to gain access to an organization that may shed light on my past. I don't even know if it will be worth it, yet I did it with little hesitation. This match being a blindfold match will only enhance that aspect of my personality. When a man is blinded he becomes desperate. A man who is desperate will do whatever it takes. My only question for you is, do you have the same determination as I? Are you willing to go as far as I am willing to go. For your sake, I truly hope you do. I don't want to hurt you Danny. I respect you. I respect your attempts to turn your life around. I actually envy you. You are a man trying to change his future, I am a man trying to find his past. You have the ability to be forward looking, and I am always looking behind. So I don't want this to end badly for you. But make no mistake about it, if I have to hurt in order to be declared the winner, I will do so. On Saturday you will see me as a desperate, and determined man, these two things combined will lead me to victory. From there I will ride the wave of victory straight into Apocalypse Now, and I will become the SWA Champion."[/b]
